📰 Why this phone matters: Nokia 8110 is a mobile phone released in 1996. It was announced on September 9, 1996 as the first of Nokia’s high-end 8000 series of phones.Its distinctive styling was the first example of a ‘slider’ form factor. A sliding cover protected the keypad when being carried in the pocket and extended downwards in use, bringing the microphone closer to the mouth.The action of opening the cover also answered an incoming call. The prominent curvature of the case, particularly when open, earned it the nickname “banana phone”. It was also the first Nokia phone with monochrome graphic LCD.
The phone was designed for the business market and was one of the smallest and lightest (152 grams) phones on the market, but still had better battery life than its predecessor Nokia 2110.
The improved 8110i model, announced in March 1997, was the first phone with the SSMS (Smart SMS) engine.The handsets could be updated OTA (Over The Air) with an intelligent menu structure, which allowed simple information input, input which was sent through a simple structured text message to an MT receiver. This station could interpret information and a structured text message back to the handset. Ring tone receiving by SMS was also part of the smart messaging protocol, so 8110i was also the first mobile phone to support it. Nokia later stopped marketing Smart messaging and concentrated on the upcoming WAP standard, but has not dropped smart messaging support from later phones. Both models were succeeded by Nokia 8810 in 1998.
The phone was famously featured in the science fiction action film The Matrix (1999), for which it was modified featuring spring-loaded mechanism (this later appeared on the Nokia 7110).📝 Reviews when released: N/A 💔

It differs from its predecessor in color of the phone (now it has only one black color) and availability of color screen. Like the other models from this phone line, a new display is capable to support only 4096 color. The other important difference is Java applications support.The phone measures 103 – 140.5 x 46 x 20 mm, it can be comfortably worn in the pockets or a hostel. The handset weighs 112 grams, what is a little bit heavier than the weight of the standard phone. On the other hand, titan exterior, which increases the phone’s weight, absorbs shocks and protects hardware. Scratches can’t be noticed on this phone even within the time; the color is not changed. To open the phone, press 2 side keys simultaneously and main part of the phone would be slid.

The keyboard has definitely got a few updates – first, the navigation joystick is replaced with a D-pad, which is a great choice by the way. Then there are two new shortcut keys – the Phonebook and My Own key. The My Own key is a customizable shortcut key that you can use for starting an application of your choice. The keys of the QWERTY keyboard have gotten just a notch smaller, but the space between them has increased. Furthermore their tactile feedback is far better on E61i than on the E61. 📰 Why this phone matters: The Nokia N76 is a multimedia 3G Smartphone made by Nokia. It was introduced at the Las Vegas CES 2007 in January 2007 and was launched on 5 May 2007 with a sales price of 390 eur;. It is advertised as “The computer done beautifully” and as a “multimedia computer”. It is also the slimmest Nseries phone to date, following many trends such as mirrored exterior screen and Motorola RAZR metal keypad. Hardware-wise the N76 bases off a platform by Freescale, being a first of kind in the family of “cheap” 3G smartphones. In fact the difference between the OMAP2420 and this Freescale CPU, is the lack of a graphics accelerator.The phone was originally released without stereo bluetooth, but a later firmware update v30.0.015 adds A2DP and AVRCP bluetooth profiles. There are also numerous stability improvements and bug fixes as well as new features including the inclusion of Nokia Maps and a new search feature in active standby.
The N76 is among the more rarer Nokia devices and they go for relatively high prices in the second hand market.
