    📰 Why this phone matters: The Nokia N78 is a 3G smartphone made by Nokia. It was first introduced at the Mobile World Congress on 11 February 2008, and was launched on 26 May 2008 for &eur;o;350 before taxes and subsidies. It runs on Symbian 9.3 (S60 3rd Edition, FP2) and was marketed as a more cheaper Nseries device inside a compact, light body. The phone is compatible with the N-Gage 2.0 mobile gaming service.

    It is the successor of the N73 and its design shares similarities with the N81, N82 and N96. Despite its relatively low price, the Nokia N78 does still pack numerous standard Nseries features such as A-GPS, HSDPA and Wi-Fi. It has a touch-sensitive Navi wheel like on the N81, and was the first Nokia (and among the first overall, along with Sony Ericsson W980) to feature an FM transmitter. Its keypad is hidden in idle mode and lights up when a key is pressed. It did not however become popular like the N73 was. Later in 2008 the Nokia N79 was introduced.

    The Nokia N78 was also the first Nokia phone with the new extended guitar-based version of the Nokia Tune.

    📰 Why this phone matters: The Nokia N86 8MP is a high-end smartphone announced on 17 February 2009 and released in May 2009. It runs on Symbian OS 9.3 (S60 3rd Edition FP2) and is part of the Nseries. It shares similar design features with the N97.
    One of its main selling points is its Carl Zeiss photography features. It was Nokia’s first camera phone to have an 8 megapixel sensor (although late compared to other manufacturers),and features both multiple aperture settings and a mechanical shutter (uncommon features by the standards of camera phones), and a Carl Zeiss lens with a wide angle of view (28 mm equivalent). It also has auto focus and a dual LED flash (3rd generation dual-LEDs), and an AF assist light. Video capture resolution is 640 x 480 pixels (VGA) at 30 frames per second.

    The N86 continuous the form factor of the Nokia N95 and N85 with its dual-sliding form factor, whilst adding a toughened glass front cover and metal detailing and keypad, making it look and feel premium.It has a 2.6-inch AMOLED display, a fast 434 MHz processor, and an 8 GB internal memory.It also has the same kickback stand as the N85 so it is possible to use as a small standalone screen, and it is possible to configure the opening of the stand to launch applications such as the video player. It also supports the N-Gage gaming platform. The N86 8MP is regarded as the spiritual successor of the N95 8GB due to its feature set in the same sliding form factor, and the commercial failure of the N96. Some regard it a successor of the N82 due to its camera.

It is compatible with the N-Gage 2.0 gaming platform and also has a DVB-H television tuner.
    Compared to the popular Nokia N95 8GB, the N96 has a doubled flash storage capacity (16 gigabytes), dual LED flash in the camera, and has a slimmer design. However critics had negative views on the N96’s battery life and user-unfriendlyness and its downgraded CPU clock speed raised questions.It was one of 2008’s most anticipated mobile phones, but its launch was delayed and was only widely available from October 2008.It is thus considered to have been a commercial failure.Critics felt that the Nokia N85 provided more new additions compared to the N96 for much cheaper.

    📰 Why this phone matters: Siemens is not very strong in the clamshell phone segment, its first product, clamshell CL50 was accepted more than just cold by the consumers. The next product – CL55 did not even reach the market, this ODM-model was silently cancelled in the first quarter of year 2004. That’s why it was pretty useless to expect warm feedback from the consumers for the CF62 phone, it undeservedly lost attention by consumers who considered this phone another asian model. The irony is that this time Siemens had developed the model by itself and did it with their best traditions. After a long break Siemens introduced successful model, which has slipped out of consumer’s sight due to previous failures. I’d like to make a note here, that by saying successful model you should not expect maximal functionality, you will not find it here, but try looking for match of functions and segment – and you will find it, it is new generation of what Siemens M55 was for its time, by the way CF62 is the clone of this model.

    📰 Why this phone matters: ake the cute-as-a-button Sony CMD-Z5, for example. Released in 2000 at a time when the idea of a phone having a colour screen was the stuff of a madman’s dreams, this sleek and pocket-sized blower looked truly amazing; it was a desirable piece of tech which could fit snugly in the palm of your hand.

    Sure, the 96×72 pixel monochrome screen looks crude by modern standards, but at the time it was pin-sharp compared to the competition, and was even capable of hosting some decent games thanks to the inclusion of Sony’s unique ‘Jog-Dial’ wheel on the side of the phone; we spent many a happy bus trip playing the bundled fishing and clay pigeon shooting games. The Jog-Dial could also be used to navigate the phone’s carousel-style menu system.

    Released just before Sony joined forces with communications giant Ericsson to create the Sony Ericsson brand, the CMD-Z5 – and its successor, the Z7 – have all the hallmarks of phones designed to fulfil a singular purpose, rather than cater for a wide range of functions.
