📰 Why this phone matters: Straight out of the box the 7310 Supernova does look a little distinctive. Its screen is mirrored and the silver plastic number keys also have a mirrored effect so that stylish types can check their coiffure at regular intervals. The out of the box fascia of my review sample was deep blue. A ‘candy pink’ Xpress-On cover was provided. Don’t go there. Choose the ‘wasabi green’ bundle instead.

    📅 Release Year: 2005 | 💰 Release Price: ~500 €

    📊 Units Sold: ~400k

📰 Why this phone matters: The Nokia 7380 fashion phone was released in 2005, as part of the “L’Amour Collection”, along with the 7360, 7370, 7373 and 7390. The 7380 was designed at Nokia’s Design Center in California, led by Miki Mehandjiysky. What distinguishes this phone from others is its sensory navigation key which differs greatly from a conventional keypad and functions similarly to the touch-sensitive navigation wheel of the iPod. The display of the phone is another point if interest, measuring approximately 1.5 cm by 7 cm. The screen also becomes highly reflective in power saving mode, so it can double as a mirror.
The Nokia 7380 has a 2-megapixel camera, up to 52 MB built-in memory (non-expandable), FM radio and Bluetooth and sports Pop-Port connectivity.
The “L’Amour Collection” was awarded the 2006 IDEA Award (Silver) by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).

📰 Why this phone matters: Where the original 7610 was stocky and a bit overdesigned for our tastes, the Supernova is slim and unassuming. The slider design is attractive, but it doesn’t go out of its way to catch your eye. The front face is glossy silver, while the back cover design is up to you. Nokia includes red and black interchangeable covers in the box, though actually prying them off isn’t easy. The handset measures 3.86 inches by 1.89 inches by 0.59 inch, which is thin by Nokia standards. It weighs 3.48 ounces, which is nice for traveling.

📰 Why this phone matters: The Nokia 7650 is a 2.5G consumer-oriented smartphone belonging to the fashion and experimental (7xxx) series. It was introduced in Barcelona on 19 November 2001, and was described by CEO Jorma Ollila as the company’s most important launch of that year.Feature-rich, it was the first Nokia phone with a built-in camera (VGA resolution), and thus its imaging capabilities was widely marketed. It has a large (at the time) 2.1″ colour display with a resolution of 176×208 pixels. The 7650 was also the company’s first to feature Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), and it also has Bluetooth and GPRS connectivities (although to much criticism did not support Bluetooth headsets).

    📅 Release Year: 2009 | 💰 Release Price: ~100 $

    📊 Units Sold: ~300k

📰 Why this phone matters: The miniaturization of cell phone tech is enabling some truly unique designs lately. The Samsung Alias 2 was one, with its morphing e-ink keyboard. The Nokia 7705 Twist is another; it literally swivels open. It’s far from the first handset to do this; swivel phones were more popular several years ago, and of course the T-Mobile Sidekick line still does it. But with eye-catching devices like the Twist, they could make a comeback. The Twist is a decent choice for a Verizon feature phone, but there are several downsides-most of which are likely due to packing so much technology into such a small space.
