📰 Why this phone matters: The 7100 is a slider with a mechanism that thunks nicely and feels solid enough to remain reliable over time. The numberpad, revealed when the slide is up, comprises large-ish buttons with a no frills design. Each button is slightly raised in its centre making it easy to find and hit. With the slide closed this isn’t quite as small as I generally like slider phones to be. It is a bit tall at 98mm. However, its 48.4mm of width and 15mm of thickness are OK. With the slide opened the 7100 is 125mm tall and as for weight, it tips the scales at 103.5g.The casing is made of plastic, which might not stand too many drops down the stairs or crunches in a bag. As for its colour scheme, the 7100 looks designed to appeal to a young and bling-friendly audience. The front fascia is mostly black with, in the case of my review sample, a flash of bright metallic pink sitting below the screen. The back of the casing is also pink. Nokia calls this colour ‘jelly red’ but it looks pink to me. You can also get it in a rather nice shade of blue as well as an almost all black guise with just a flash of blue round the navi button.
The colour splash is where you’ll find the two softkeys and Call and End keys, the latter doubling as the main on/off switch. The navi button is large and its frame is also sizeable. I’d say even those with really stubby fingers should be able to get around this handset fine.

📰 Why this phone matters: Straight out of the box the 7310 Supernova does look a little distinctive. Its screen is mirrored and the silver plastic number keys also have a mirrored effect so that stylish types can check their coiffure at regular intervals. The out of the box fascia of my review sample was deep blue. A ‘candy pink’ Xpress-On cover was provided. Don’t go there. 📰 Why this phone matters: Where the original 7610 was stocky and a bit overdesigned for our tastes, the Supernova is slim and unassuming. The slider design is attractive, but it doesn’t go out of its way to catch your eye. The front face is glossy silver, while the back cover design is up to you. Nokia includes red and black interchangeable covers in the box, though actually prying them off isn’t easy. The handset measures 3.86 inches by 1.89 inches by 0.59 inch, which is thin by Nokia standards. It weighs 3.48 ounces, which is nice for traveling.📝 Reviews when released: cNET 🔗

📰 Why this phone matters: Nokia 9500 Communicator is a smartphone produced by Nokia, introduced on 24 February 2004 and released in November 2004. It runs on the Symbian-based Series 80 platform.
The 9500 is equipped with a 150 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP processor and 64 megabytes of SDRAM. It features two screens – a fully functional interior screen, and a restricted-function external screen, which operates on a stripped-down Series 40 user interface.
Connectivity features of the 9500 include: Bluetooth, infrared, USB, Wi-Fi (Nokia’s first device with Wi-Fi), CSD, HSCSD, GPRS and EDGE. It has send and receive fax facilities (without scanner) and multi-account POP3/IMAP email client.
The built-in Web browser, a Nokia-branded version of Opera, is able to render both WAP and HTML Web pages. Like others in the Communicator series, the 9500 has a full QWERTY keyboard.
Built-in software includes a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation program, which are compatible with the Microsoft Office suite equivalents; also featured is an MP3 player. In addition to the software applications provided by Nokia, a large range of third-party software is available; many programs written for older Nokia Communicators are compatible with the 9500 and new software can be written in C++ or OPL.
The 9500 also runs Java ME applications, but some do not make full use of the unusually large and wide screen, so that many existing Java games will run, but only use the top left hand corner of the screen. It supports storage on a Multimedia Card (MMC) of up to 2 GB (on later firmware versions).
The 9500 is only available with 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz radios. There were many rumors that a U.S. version with 850 MHz radio capability was going to be made, but it never materialized. Nokia was producing simultaneously the 9500 and its related version, the 9300, so they decided to make a U.S. version of the 9300 instead.📝 Reviews when released: CNET 🔗

The N73 succeeded the N70 and packed in numerous multimedia features. It features a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, a front camera, a then-large 2.4 inch display, and stereo speakers,all in a relatively slim and pocketable size and form.It runs on Symbian v9.1 (S60 3rd Edition).

📰 Why this phone matters: The Nokia N78 is a 3G smartphone made by Nokia. It was first introduced at the Mobile World Congress on 11 February 2008, and was launched on 26 May 2008 for &eur;o;350 before taxes and subsidies. It runs on Symbian 9.3 (S60 3rd Edition, FP2) and was marketed as a more cheaper Nseries device inside a compact, light body. The phone is compatible with the N-Gage 2.0 mobile gaming service.It is the successor of the N73 and its design shares similarities with the N81, N82 and N96. Despite its relatively low price, the Nokia N78 does still pack numerous standard Nseries features such as A-GPS, HSDPA and Wi-Fi. It has a touch-sensitive Navi wheel like on the N81, and was the first Nokia (and among the first overall, along with Sony Ericsson W980) to feature an FM transmitter. Its keypad is hidden in idle mode and lights up when a key is pressed. It did not however become popular like the N73 was. Later in 2008 the Nokia N79 was introduced.
The Nokia N78 was also the first Nokia phone with the new extended guitar-based version of the Nokia Tune.

📰 Why this phone matters: The Nokia N86 8MP is a high-end smartphone announced on 17 February 2009 and released in May 2009. It runs on Symbian OS 9.3 (S60 3rd Edition FP2) and is part of the Nseries. It shares similar design features with the N97.
One of its main selling points is its Carl Zeiss photography features. It was Nokia’s first camera phone to have an 8 megapixel sensor (although late compared to other manufacturers),and features both multiple aperture settings and a mechanical shutter (uncommon features by the standards of camera phones), and a Carl Zeiss lens with a wide angle of view (28 mm equivalent). It also has auto focus and a dual LED flash (3rd generation dual-LEDs), and an AF assist light. Video capture resolution is 640 x 480 pixels (VGA) at 30 frames per second.The N86 continuous the form factor of the Nokia N95 and N85 with its dual-sliding form factor, whilst adding a toughened glass front cover and metal detailing and keypad, making it look and feel premium.It has a 2.6-inch AMOLED display, a fast 434 MHz processor, and an 8 GB internal memory.It also has the same kickback stand as the N85 so it is possible to use as a small standalone screen, and it is possible to configure the opening of the stand to launch applications such as the video player. It also supports the N-Gage gaming platform. The N86 8MP is regarded as the spiritual successor of the N95 8GB due to its feature set in the same sliding form factor, and the commercial failure of the N96. Some regard it a successor of the N82 due to its camera.
